Speedier Development Worries LGA Chief
The head of the Local Government Association (LGA) of New South Wales says she is alarmed by the NSW Government’s plans to fast-track development.
Planning Minister Kristina Keneally has announced the Government will manage the rezoning of land across the state for housing, commercial and industrial use.
The Minister says that will help the state’s economy by speeding up development approvals.
LGA president Genia McCaffery says she is okay with speedy procedures, but infrastructure needs are often ignored.
“No council disputes [are] speeding up the process but if you speed up the process at the cost of providing decent infrastructure and making sure that you don’t get development … 10 years down the track you think, my God, who approved that?” she said.
“So I am always a little bit concerned when we hear about ministers speeding up the process.”
