North Coast Selects Mayors
It looks like the race is nearly over for three of the region’s mayoral positions in the latest results for the local government elections on the NOrthern Rivers.
Lismore’s proud new Mayor Jenny Dowell spoke this morning and outlined her goals for the city.
“I would like to set a standard of open communication within council so that decisions aren’t outside the council chambers and we engage in open and respectful debate,” she said.
In Ballina, Phil Silver is still reluctant to declare victory as mayor, but he is currently in front with 34 per cent of the vote. Independent Sharon Cadwalladeris a close second.
In Byron, current Mayor Jan Barham is ahead with a big margin with 50 per cent of the vote.
Tweed council looks like it will go from the administrators appointed in 2005 to a Greens council, with the party getting 19 per cent of the vote so far.
Counting is still to close to call in Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley and Kyogle.
