New Yamba Port Storage Will Boost Shipping
New South Wales Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi says the development of an undercover storage capacity at Yamba will boost imports to the north coast port.
A $100,000 project, due to start in June, will treble the storage facilities at Yamba, the state’s northernmost port.
Mr Tripodi says one of the shipping operators using the port will increase its volumes from 500 to 1,500 cubic metres of weather-sensitive cargo.
He says it is part of a plan to increase shipping trade and bolster local businesses.
“It’s all about encouraging more shipping along the river, this is about increasing the storage space and also putting it up under cover,” he said.
“It’ll be able to store about 1,500 cubic metres and it’ll help the local businesses that are there already.
“We’ve already got two shipping services operating out of Yamba, and we want to encourage more.”
