New Alcohol Free Zone for Maclean
Following a request from the local indigenous community and NSW Police, Council recently adopted a new alcohol free zone in the Hillcrest area of Maclean. The zone declaration will assist the local community and NSW Police to manage consumption of alcohol in public places.
The zoning change follows a Council wide review of alcohol free zones and extension of restrictions in consumption of alcohol in many Council parks and reserves.
Mayor Ian Tiley stressed, “It is important that Council support local communities to address issues such as alcohol fuelled anti-social activity while also working closely with the NSW Police to enforce those restrictions.”
Working with local communities and the NSW Police to deal with alcohol induced anti-social behaviour and related crime activity is a key action under Council’s Crime Prevention Plan 2008-10.
