Byron Council Seeks Feedback

The Byron Shire Council is calling for public comment on its draft management plan for 2008 to 2011.

The plan sets out the council’s agenda and activities for the next three years, and Byron Mayor Jan Barham says it is the most important document the council produces.

The council’s manager of financial services, Jim Bolger, says a new format means the document now focuses on sustainability and outcome delivery.

He says the council has voted to support a 6.22 per cent special rate increase on top of the approved rise of 3.2 per cent.

“In terms of support from the community, council has had very little opposition to this, and I think that’s from the success of making sure that it hasn’t been just been put into the budget as general revenue, but allocated to new and upgraded facilities, so the community’s able to see what it’s actually getting for its money,” he said.
